Light Spirit At Allied

Allied Glass has become the first British glass container maker to produce lightweight spirit bottles using blow-and-blow production methods. Its first products are 1 litre and 700ml white flint bottles for the Selekt and Moskova vodka ranges made by G&J Greenall. The 1 litre bottle weighs 440g, a 19% saving in weight over Allied's previous lightweight spirit bottle. And the 700ml bottle weighs only 330g, a 15% saving in weight from its equivalent standard lightweight container. Both the designs have a ROPP ring finishes. Alan Henderson, Operations Director, says technological advances at the firm mean it can make containers that keep the image of the spirits bottle but are light enough to cut customers' distribution costs. The firm has also received a boost to its capacity with the opening of a new production line at its Leeds factory.
