Over recent years consumers have become increasingly worried about the health risks said to be associated with lead exposure. According to the American Society of Glass and Ceramic Decorators (SGCD), inaccurate media coverage on this issue, particularly in the USA, has resulted in the public becoming worried out of all proportion about using glass and ceramics that contain lead. Public concern in Europe is not yet as great as it is in the USA, but since that country is such a large market for European tableware products this issue already is a global one it will not be long before lead becomes a major issue in Europe.
