Lead-Silicate Glasses With Sodium Sulfate

It has been shown that glasses containing up to 5% SO3 can be obtained in the systems Na2O-PbO-(B2O3)-SiO2-SO3. At constant total sodium and sulphur oxide content the durability of the glasses with respect to water and atmospheric humidity increases with the molar ratio Na2O:SO3, which should be 7:10 if the maximum possible amount of SO3 is to be introduced without impairing durability.
