The Latvian representation of US group NCH (New Century Holding), together with its Dutch partners is launching a 20M Euro project to build a glass coating plant for greenhouse glazing in Riga, it was reported in Latvia's Dienas Bizness (DB) daily. If ordinary glass is used in greenhouses, part of the sunlight is reflected and never reaches the plants. Calculations by the Dutch suggest that plants grown under glass would produce heavier crops if none of the sunlight were reflected. The new factory will coat imported glass to make it anti-reflective, said NCH representative Andris Kupcis. According to the DB report, the glass coating equipment required will cost 16M Euros, and another 2M Euros will be needed for additional equipment. The equipment will be brought from Latvia's coating technology manufacture Sidrabe.
