Based outside Paris, Chpolansky is a family owned business that employs 130 people, 80 being skilled engineers or technicians. The company has recently created a laser cladding technology for the container glass mould industry, designed to realise cladding on cast iron and bronze using a laser beam technique. Intended for use on neck rings and moulds, the technique reduces Heat Affected Zones and allows a constant thermal setting which can be repeated from one mould to another. As cladding improves a moulds life and joint quality, this int urn will help to solve welding problems and extend the mould life, as well as reducing tooling costs. The technology allows mould makers to coat new cast iron, bronze or steel moulds on edges, and make coatings for neck rings. Hailed as a progression from the dominant Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) technology, Chpolansky has patented the technology in Europe, and has patents pending throughout the world.
