WRAP & BRC have been working together to develop a consistent approach to recycling information labelling on consumer packaging across the UK retail sector. They are asking for comments on their proposals, outlined in the document listed below. The intention is to develop a consistent & easily understood labelling methodology to be used both on retailers own-label & brand-owner packaging of consumer products. The scheme would be voluntary. It is hoped that this will help more consumers recycle more packaging & also help local authorities & others to increase recycling rates for those materials that could be recycled, but that currently have low collection & recycling rates. The label would put packaging into one of three categories (recycled by the vast majority of local authorities/recycled by most local authorities/recycled by only a small number of local authorities). WRAP would re-asses these categories on a yearly basis, so potentially as local authorities overhaul their recycling facilities, products may change categories. The label will be based on the `recycle now' logo which is already widely used. BRC and WRAP have asked for responses by 14 December, so I would appreciate any comments by the end of Monday 10 December
