[Japan] Glassmakers Looking For Price Increase In Auto Glass

According to Japanese news corporation JCN, Asahi Glass Co said 25 June that it has started negotiations with automakers about its proposal for raising automotive glass product prices by around 10% due to surging prices of fuel & materials including crude oil. If realized, the price hike will be the largest in nearly 30y since the second oil crisis. The leading Japanese glass maker is in talks with Japanese & other Asian automakers, aiming to implement the markup retroactive to shipments in April. The company also plans to request automakers in Europe & the USA to agree to the price hike. Among Japanese glass makers, Central Glass Co. has started negotiations with automakers about a similar markup. Nippon Sheet Glass is expected to follow suit.
