During 2000, Italy's machinery and equipment export levels bega to rise, movig the industry out of the decline it suffered two years ago. Domestic production levels in primary machinery sectors exceeded 38,000bn lire in 2000, 12.8% up on figures for 1999. After a less than promising start, 2000 produced encouraging export growth trends for virtually all sectors of the market.
