An initiative in the Republic of Ireland shows that the UK is rapidly becoming isolated as one of the rare examples where householders pay the same for their waste disposal services, regardless of the amount of waste they produce. Householders in the ROI are to be charged by weight for the waste they put out for collection within three years under a new policy aimed at providing more incentives for re-use and recycling. The Irish Times reports that South Dublin CC are to charge EUR125-190 per household/pa for collection of non-recyclable waste.
