Ion Exchange On Glass Substrates: Influence Of The Mixed Cation Effect On Concentration Profiles

Conductivity measurements have been carried out on silver sodium borate and silicate glasses revealing a "mixed cation effect". This effect is interpreted as being nonlinear variations with glass composition of the self diffusion coefficients of the two mobile cations. An empirical relationship is deduced from conductivity measurements and is introduced into ion exchange governing equations which are solved by numerical method.
