Arrangements for the International Congress on Glass, from 1-7 July 2001 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre are continuing. The local organising committee, chaired by the Society of Glass Technology president, Mr John Clark includes Mr R Montgomery, Dr J M Parker, Prof H A Schaeffer, Mr W Simpson & Prof A C Wright. An outline social programme has been agreed. A welcome reception will be held on the Sunday at Dynamic Earth, a new visitor attraction in the city. The excursion on the Wednesday will be to the Glenturret Distillery and Creiff Hydro and will include a display of Highland games. The main congress theme encompasses new directions for glass developments and application. The conference programme will include some dedicated sessions organised by technical committees of the ICG, for example TC14 gases in glasses.
