Intelligent Coatings For Automotive Applications

Automotive glazing is now expected to provide more than just perfect visibility, it contains additional functions such as heating and aerials. The increasing differentiation and individualization of vehicle concepts requires more technical features, which need new solutions in materials and surfaces. The integration of new functions is the subject of current R&D activities. The various coating processes represent key technologies in this field and will allow the integration of new properties such as functional surfaces and variable transparency. Although many technologies have been known on a technical level for some time, their integration into vehicles often reveal difficulties. The industry is, however, making major efforts to overcome these difficulties and to meet criteria given by laws and customers' expectations regarding quality and cost.
