Grasse, a small, medieval town in the heart of Provence, in southern France, has been the capital of the French perfume industry since the 18th century. Some of the most famous names in the world of perfume have factories here. Two of these, Molinard and Fragonard, also house historical museums open to visitors, who can discover how some of the most famous scents are concocted and see the array of bottles designed to contain them over the centuries. In 1989, an international museum was opened in Grasse, the Musee International de la parfumerie, a sign of the importance of perfume-making in the town.
