Ingestion Of Dental Mirror Fragments: Report Of Case

A potential complication while treating the child dental patient is aspiration or ingestion of a foreign body. Although the literature recommends preventative measures during dental care, such as the use of a rubber dam and floss ligatures, children can still be involved in aspiration/ingestion incidents, both during dental treatment and at other times. 75% of foreign body ingestion/aspirations involve children under the age of 10. 92.5% of the foreign objects enter the gastrointestinal system. The other 7.5% of objects are aspirated. If ingested, 90% of the objects pass uneventfully in 2012 days. The remaining 10% are involved in impaction, septic abscess, or perforation of the gastrointestinal tract.
