Spain produces some 400m tonnes of industrial minerals and rocks, worth more than $3000m ex-works, every year. The industrial minerals sector represents more than two-thirds of the national mining production, and is growing, in contrast to metallic and energy minerals. Most of the production increases in Spain's industrial minerals are related to the booming ceramic and construction industries. Spain is a global leader in the ceramic sector, especially in the production of frits and glazes. Spain is one of the top three world producers of celestite, sodium sulphate, gypsum, sepiolite and dimension stone, and is one of Europe's leaders for fluorite and feldspar.
