Indian Refractories Industry Focus

In 2009, world tonnage of refractories was estimated to be around 39M/t, a figure that is expected to rise to around 43M/t in 2010. The international steel industry dominates demand, consuming over two-thirds of output. In comparison, the glass industry consumes a relatively small proportion of around 5% of production. In this article, freelance correspondent Sunder Singh assesses the Indian refractory industry and some of the key local players serving the market.
