Without any doubt, the Indian automotive glass industry is booming. With more than double-digit growth in each successive years, the coming years will present more opportunities and a bigger market for the industry, as almost all the auto majors have scaled up the size of their production. Automotive glass demand is likely to increase at much higher rate as compared to the average of the last 3 years. Auto glazing is becoming gibber, and more complex, and in contrast to the past, cars today consist of about 4.6 sq metres of glazing on average (in 1985 this was just 3.5). In the short-term, however, with the global economy in turmoil, rising input prices for automakers (notably steel) and of course the ever rising crude oil prices might put a dampener on the market in the short term, however, the future for the Indian glass industry looks generally good.
