Production personnel in glass container manufacturing usually agree that a significant part of the container is effectively produced in the forehearth. This refers to the fact that the necessary level of thermal homogeneity and temperature stability must be obtained in the forehearth before the actual forming process can be undertaken. It is therefore surprising that the control of forehearths has undergone so little change over a period in which major advances have been made in the control of the forming machines themselves.
