Improvements In Or Relating To The Manufacture Of Flat Glass

Floating glass of desired surface characteristics is produced by forming continuous marginal ridges along both edges of a glass ribbon on a float bath, and maintaining a pool of molten material on part of the upper surface of the ribbon, the pool being confined laterally by the marginal ridges. The ridges are formed by lifting opposite regions of the ribbon margins off the bath surface and allowing them subsequently to collapse.
