Where an electric current is passed throught the float glass from a body of molten copper-lead alloy maintianed on its surface, to modify that surface, vapourisation from the body may mean that molten lead remains on the glass surface after treatment. An ancillary alloy body maintained on the glass downstream of the first body will clense the surface.
