Improvement In Glass Blister Quality By Throat Design

The throat of a glass furnace is sometimes the life-limiting part of the melting process. For Corning's colour TV glass panel tanks, improvements in throat life achieved by using a submerged throat design were offset by poorer blister quality. This paper discusses the design of a standard throat that produced improvement in blister quality using return flaw and at the same time improved throat life.
