Improved Transmission Of 1Ps Solitons From A Fibre Laser Over 40Km Of Dispersion-Decreasing Fibre

Short pulse (1-2ps) soliton transmission is compared in a dispersion-decreasing fibre profile (DDF) and conventional dispersion-shifted fibre with the same average dispersion. Improved transmission is predicted and observed in the DDF for a wide range of launch powers and for a variety of initial pulse chirps.
