In the float process, at least one of the edges of the glass ribbon being formed on the bath is subjected to a transverse actions which tends to thrust back the edge towards the centre of the bath. The force is large enough to displace the edge from its natural equilibrium position, and is exerted downstream of the bath confining walls where the glass has a minimum viscosity of 107.15 poise.
