Improved Performance With Second Generation Furnace Design

The LoNOx furnace was developed to give low NOx emissions. A prototype, commissioned at the end of 1987 at Wiegand Glas in Germany, was recently repaired after a campaign of 66 months, providing the first opportunity to examine refractory wear. According to the author, certain design changes made at the repair have resulted in a second generation LoNOx melter.
