Improved Container Performance Through Strength Enhancement Coatings

Strength enhancement coatings are being investigated by Elf Atochem, North America (EANA), and Anchor Glass Container Corp (AGCC). Aqueous-based solutions were developed in the laboratories of EANA and transferred to the production environment through a cooperative development effort with AGCC. Preliminary results show that the Atochem treatment increases the strength of ware using on-line equipment familiar to the glass container industry. Strength enhancements observed during full-scale development trials have further translated to improve bottle performance during filler trials.
