What is more important for a forehearth and distributor installation? Lowest installation cost, or lowest operating costs with highest production efficiencies? Capital costs can be quantified quite easily and are often the single most used criteria when deciding which system to install. As David Parkinson from Parkinson Spencer Refractories explains, this can be quite short sighted, however, as the long-term cost implications of fuel consumption and the equipment's influence on glass thermal homogeneity and production efficiency can vastly outweigh any cost savings made at the time of installation.
