The Impact Of Recycled Glass On The Usage Of Primary Raw Materials

The recycling of glass in the European container industry has increased significantly from about 1.8m tonnes in 1980 to over 5m tonnes in 1990. Whereas in 1980, recycled glass accounted for 15% of total container production, by 1990 the proportion had risen to 34%. Such an increase has obviously had a very large impact on the consumption of primary raw materials. This paper examines the effect of this large increase in recycling on raw materials consumptions in more detail.
