Hydrogel Interlayers For Energy Efficiency

There is increasing demand for "smart windows": glazing capable of responding to changes in climatic conditions so as to maintain a comfortable environment indoors and help reduce energy consumption both for heating and air-conditioning systems. The Japanese company, Affinity, has developed energy-efficient glazing by means of a hydrogel interlayer. This article looks at the theory behind the system and at its practical advantages.
