High-Speed Polymer Optical Fiber For Multimedia Network (In Japanese)

High-bandwidth Graded-Index Polymer Optical Fibre (GI-POF) can be used as a high density information transmission medium maintaining a large core diameter (about 1mm). In this study a low-loss and high-bandwidth GI-POF has been developed. Excellent transparency in the near infrared region could be achieved by using all-fluorinated polymer. Moreover, the GI-POF which has the bandwidth of 2 GHz in the 100m length was successfully prepared by controlling the refractive index distribution of the core area appropriately using this polymer.
