High Resolution Laser Inspection Of Glass Plates

Manufacturers of high quality glass plates (eg coated or display glass) are experiencing mounting pressure to boost production rates, improve quality and increase yields. This trend is further stimulated by a continuously increasing size of the glass substrates. Automatic inspection systems can cope with these requirements concurrently if the correct inspection system is installed. The difficulty is matching the inspection problem against an array of inspection system solutions. This article emphasises the inspection of high-quality glass plates. However, the same principles and concepts can be extended to any coated glass application where quality is vital. On the basis of SIS systems in the field, a typical application is described as well as some of its underlying principles.
