The objectives of the glass melting process can usefully be summarised as "to deliver sustained high yield at lowest overall cost." In this article, Geoff Evans from GlasRef Consulting outlines some of the challenges to this objective that are created by the ever increasing demand for high transmission and high performance tinted float glasses, as well as providing potential solutions.
