High-Duty Silica Refractories For Glass Melting Furnaces

Silica bricks have been used widely for the construction of furnace crowns for several decades. The attraction of the material is its relatively low price, good refractory qualities and the fact that the corrosion products of silica bricks dissolve readily in the glass melt. However, the development of wide-span furnaces, mainly for the manufacture of float glass, and increased melting temperatures have required the development of improved silica bricks.
