Dissolution mechanism and rate of dissolution are important for understanding refractory corrosion. To better understand how the dissolution of refractory particles influences the final properties of glass, it is necessary to study the rate at which refractory particles can be dissolved into glass. Using high-temperature microscopy, a technique for measuring dissolution rate of refractory particles in glass has been developed in the NYSCC glass laboratory.
