Optical glass having a refractive index of between 1.735 and 1.86, and an Abbe number of between 41.1 and 28 consists essentially (wt%) of 12-20SiO2, 8-20B2O3 (the total of SiO2+B2Oa being 26-33), 5-20ZnO, up to 7.5CdO (the total of ZnO+CdO being 6.5-20), 10-24BaO, up to 5Mg, up to 10SrO, up to 25CaO (the total of BaO+MgO+SrO being 14-46), 4-7.5ZrO2, 6.5-25TiO2, up to 20LaZO3 and up to five alkali oxides.
