This article presents the status and future developments of heated vehicle glazing. It will be particularly relevant to those specifying glazing performance and will be of interest to glazing suppliers. The paper reviews the various heating technologies available; namely printing, wiring and metallic coating and discusses how these can be used to design glazing which has either full surface or local heating. Options for the principle vehicle glazings will be addressed. Some of the manufacturing methods will be described. Typical performance specifications and the importance of voltage levels will be discussed. It will introduce the challenge of integrating heating systems with other vehicle systems such as rain sensors and telepass.
