Heat-Soaked Glass Growing In Popularity

A C Yule Ltd, one of Scotland's major glass suppliers, is servicing the growing demand for building glass by producing glass producing glass that not only looks good, but is also durable and safety, the company says. It describes its heat soaked glass as a product growing in popularity due to its safety credentials. This type of toughened glass endures a prolonged heating process at a temperature of 290 deg C in order to eliminate imperfections in the glass. NiS is a particle found in float glass that can cause a breakage to occur up to six years after installation. The process of heat soaking allows defective sheets of glass to be detected by forcing them to break if they contain too many impurities. There has been a recent epidemic of spontaneous breakages in toughened glass, worrying because it is used widely in public buildings etc.
