Until recently, heat recovery downstream of the glass melting furnace has been a difficult task due to extreme fouling of the heat exchange surface. The major obstacles were fouling and corrosion problems causing unstable furnace conditions due to pressure drop changes, frequent cleaning stops and a relatively short boiler life span, as reported in this article.
