Gypsum deposits, mainly related to Mesozoic and Tertiary sedimentary formations, are widespread in the Earth's surface. Precipitation of gypsum takes place in varied depsotional environments, both marine and continental areas. The typology of gypsum fabrics is highly variable comprising primary selenite, laminate and nodular gypsum as well as numerous district secondary textures. The evaluated resources of gypsum in Spain largely exceed 60,000Mm3. The production of gypsum is about 10Mt per year covering both exports and internal consumption of several marketed products.
