Gujarat Borosil Ltd is planning to set up a float glass plant to complement its sheet glass plant in Bharuch, Gujarat. A detailed project report has been drawn up & the float plant will be built either alongside the existing unit or in one of the northern Indian states, where the company will enjoy tax incentives. "It is a touch & go situation between setting up the plant either in Gujarat or in one of the N Indian states. Detailed feasibility reports have been prepared for both cases. The Board will decide where the new float glass plant will be set up", said Ashok Jain, Director of Gujarat Borosil. Though he refused to reveal details of the investments to set up the float plant, he was prepared to say that the sum involved would be "sizeable", as the float glass plant will have a far higher tonnage than the present sheet glass unit, which has capacity of 63,000/t.
