Ove Arup & partners, the London group of consulting engineers, has launched a guide called "The Structural Use of Glass in Buildings" for structural engineers, architects and construction professionals. The guide compares the behaviour of glass with other structural materials and touches on non-structural issues that may influence design, such as condensation, colour and acoustics. It offers straightforward advice on the use of glass and the applicability of designs. It was launched at an institute seminar held in London in January this year. Chris Jofeh, a director of Arup, compiled the guide on behalf of the Inst of Glass in Buildings as part of a project funded by the UK's Dept of Environment, Transport & Regions (DETR) under its Partners in Technology programme.
