Guardian Industries Capacity Expansion At Hungarian Operation

Guardian Industries is investing EUR 30M to expand production at its flat glass unit in Hungary. It aims to meet growing demand created by state-subsidised programmes for the renovation of communist-era pre-fabricated apartment buildings, it was reported 15/11/06. Guardian Industries will build a 4,000sq/m hall for a new production line capable of outputting 6Msq/m of specially-coated flat glass/pa, MD the Hungarian unit Zsolt Erdosi told Napi Gazdasag. The new line will be completed end-07 & 50 new workers will be hired for the new production line, bringing the unit's workforce to 400. Guardian has been operating in Hungary since 1996, when it bought a glass factory in Oroshaza, in the south-east of the country. In 2004 the factory was rebuilt at a cost of EUR 45M. Its current capacity is 20Msq/m flat glass per year.
