Guala Closures is targeting wine & spirits markets with a tamper-evident roll-on screw cap. The closure, which Guala has been developing for the past year, incorporates a coloured plastic ring that appears between the bottle neck & the closure once the bottle is opened. Guala marketing manager Anne Seznec said wine counterfeiting was a growing concern & highlighted estimates that up to 5% fine wines sold were fake. She said: "Traditionally, this market has shied away from alternative closures, but if they can help find a solution to what is a very real problem then they have to be worth considering." The closure design has been changed slightly to differentiate from a standard one, but Guala said the application was unaffected & the price difference was "negligible." Guala expects the closure will be immediately popular in both sectors.
