The Guala Group have recently introduced the GS Elite, which they believe could be the stopper of the future for wine bottles. The result of no less than five years of development, studies and multiple ageing tests, GS Elite favours the control of permeability to oxygen. It is composed of two parts in polypropylene. Pre-assembled, the item is cast from a master mould of a flattened cone in expanded elastomer in which the nitrogen is injected in the supercritical fluid state. Thus, this stopper reconciles mechanical properties with chemical inertia. It ensures conservation of the wine far longer than the 18-24 months allowed by other synthetic stoppers. This patented process operates under a licence from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
