Graphical Statistical Analysis And Its Applications To Glass.

The expression "graphical statistical analysis" (the term "statistical" seems to be a little misleading) is used for the method of structural analysis by plotting different structure sensitive properties (density, refractive index, specific refraction (n2 - 1)/(n2+2)x(1/d), etc) vs. molecular weight or a similar factor. This method has been successfully applied to hydro carbon mixtures, and an attempt has been made to use it for glasses to obtain data on their degree of polymerization. A linear relationship exists between the specific refraction and the percentage of K2O of a potassium-silicate glass. The extrapolated value for 0% coincides exactly with the value for vitreous silica previously given. 39 figures, 29 references.
