Gormley Opens 5M Euro Glass Reycling Facility

A 5M Euro glass recycling facility has been opened in Co Kildare, Eire, by John Gormley, minister for the environment, heritage & local government. The Glassco Recycling plant is expected to handle 50,000/tpa & is said to be the first of its kind in Ireland to use optical colour sorting technology. The company aims to recycle further glass products, such as plate glass, in the future. The plant will use ceramic separators that remove small pieces of ceramic, stone & porcelain. Glassco Recycling said the latter are £detrimental to glass recycling" and "can render large amounts unusable for re-melting back into new bottles."
