The Cameron family in the US has put its history behind a US$ 109M project to build a new glass plant in the Port of Kalama, Washington. Cameron Family Glass Packaging claims it is the first new wine bottle glass plant in 30 years to be built in the USA. The facility is expected to create at least 90 jobs when it is completed in 2008. It is expected to be one of the largest eco-friendly wine bottle manufacturing facilities in the world. A hydro-powered electric furnace will be one of the biggest used for wine bottle production & will operate by using the Northwest waterways of the Columbia river. UK-based supplier, Electroglass, will supply the furnace for this facility. Washington is home to over 500 wineries.Cameron Bottling Co. was created in Kalama in 1889 & is ranked 9th largest US bottler.
