Turkey has been producing its own glassware for over 1000 years. In its current guise, Turkey has occupied one of the major roles in the world of glassware since the 1930s, but its roots can be traced through the history of the Ottoman Empire as far back as 1450. Recognised as a strong contender in the second tier of emerging economies, there are movements in sectors of the glass industry and wider economy that may inform a new direction for Turkish glass over the next few years. This article looks at how Turkey's glass industry has emerged from the recession and is now targeting regional expansion.
