Solar panels are available on the high street for the first time, thanks to a partnership between electrical store Currys & Sharp Electronics. The solar panels will initially be on sale in 3 Currys stores: West Thurrock, Fulham & Croydon. Currys MD said: "Our customers are becoming more environmentally aware all the time. This is far more than a green solution for the home, it is also a perfect way of safeguarding against the inevitable energy price rises." Advances in technology mean that the panels are adapted to the UK climate, requiring daylight, but not necessarily direct sunlight. The panels could reduce a home's carbon emissions by up to 2/tpa and cut electricity bills by half. The panels have a 25/y warranty. The cost for an average 3-bed house is around £9000. The Energy Saving Trust can advise on grants available to householders.
