In January 2008 the British Retail Consortium and the IOP will publish an updated version of its successful quality and safety standard for packaging products, the Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials. As a result of wide-ranging consultation with industry, the updated Standard has been extensively revised to make it easier to use and features a number of innovations including: More guidance has been included on implementing Hazard and Risk Management; Greater emphasis on senior management demonstrating their commitment to the aim of achieving quality and safety management. In addition, the Standard has been changed so it is no longer focused on hygiene requirements for food packaging and is now equally applicable to packaging for all types of goods.
