Many people associated with the international glass container industry will have encountered Maliban, Kioo, Saudi Arabian Glass or Turner Associates. What is not commonly known, however, is that each of these business entities is associated with the Turner Group, an industrial conglomerate, with diversified interests in Africa and the Middle East. The Group is embarking on an ambitious series of expansion programmes, expected to result in its glass container production capacity increasing threefold by 2010. Having been destroyed by Israeli bombs in 2006, the Maliban factory in the Lebanon is planned to be rebuilt, existing facilities in Saudi Arabia and Tanzania are to be expanded, and a new company is to be created in Egypt, with another under construction in India.
